HG Plan & UBI Join Forces to Develop High-Performance Sustainable Foams for Construction

HG Plan Management, Lda, a HG Plan Group company with a strong presence in energy efficiency projects in the construction industry, has just announced the launch of the EcoFoams project – Scalable Manufacturing of High-Performance Insulation EcoFoams for Commercial Use in Building Projects.

The project, developed in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), aims to create alternative and innovative foams based on polyurethane (PU), using sustainable materials and advanced technologies.

The new eco-foams will have significantly improved properties, such as:

  • high performance thermal insulation
  • optimized sound insulation
  • fire retardant and self-extinguishing

With these characteristics, the aim is to replace traditional PU foams with more resistant, stable and environmentally friendly solutions, promoting innovation in sustainable construction. Through the integration of nanoadditives and the optimization of manufacturing parameters, customized foam formulations will be developed, with advanced technology applied from design to post-processing.

The University of Beira Interior plays a central role in the research and development component, with emphasis on the characterization of new materials and performance tests. The EcoFoams project was approved under the Compete 2030 program, strengthening support for sustainable innovation and technological development in the construction industry.

Scheduled to start on September 1, 2025 and end on September 1, 2028, the EcoFoams project positions HG Plan as a pioneering company in research applied to construction, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and industrial innovation.
